Died: 09 Oct 1918David James Fulbright was born 12 Aug 1855 to Mahala Catherine Miller when she was 24 years old and still single.
It is not certain who David James’ father was, although Mahala said that it was David F. Fulbright, her first cousin. Mahala knew that her Uncle William and Aunt Regina were well situated and she claimed David was the father. At the time of conception, David seemed too young to father the child (about age 14 or 15), but he was named in the Bastardy Bond and David James Fulbright was bound to his grandfather, Jacob Miller by the Courts. Other sources say that his father was Randolph Johnson.
[David F. Fulbright was born on 2-18-1840 and was killed in the Civil War at the Battle of Chancellorsville, on 5-3-1863.
Others believe that David James' real father was Randolph Johnson.]David James Fulbright became very prosperous, owning a mercantile store with a post office. He was a Justice of the Peace and briefly taught school. David James married Sarah Jane Fulp on 04 Oct 1876

These girls were first cousins. Sarah Fulp Fulbright was a mid-wife and dresser of the dead. She lovingly had to lay out both girls for their funerals. The 1900 Census shows David James & Sarah still living in the Shiloh Township of Iredell County, NC. David's age was 54 and Sarah was 52. There were seven children living with the family: Odie (Odie Jane, age 18), Nora (Nora Estelle, age 16), Garland (Garland Rudolph, age 13), Walter (Walter Brian, age 11), Benjamin (appears to be James Vanderford "Benjamin", age 8), Noell (Noel Baxter, age 6) and Zeva C. (age 3).
Most interesting is the fact that David James & Sarah had two additional sons since the 1900 Census (Noel and Zeva), yet the 1910 Census states that she only had 11 children with one deceased (Sallie Clara). It appears that in actuality that David James & Sarah would have had 12 children.
Daughter Arabella "Oravell" Fulbright Moose was living nearby with her 5 children (Ruthie Mae Moose, Reba Sarah Moose, Eula Isabell Moose, Mary Inez Moose and William Colan Moose). Arabella husband, Lonnie Moose, had died 30 Jul 1909. Arabella married John Baxter Bostian on 23 Feb 1914.

The Death Certificate lists his father as David Fulbright and his mother as Miller. The cause of death was listed as "syphilis & it's complications" with "nephritis" (inflammation of the kidney) as a contributory factor. The informant was his wife, Sarah. Sarah Jane Fulp Fulbright died 21 Aut 1934. Both are buried at Sharon Lutheran Church in Iredell County, NC.
David James Fulbright's Death Certificate
David James and Sarah's son, David Vanderford Fulbright, is buried next to them. His Death Certificate has his name listed as David B. Fulbright. He died 28 May 1934 at the age of 34 from a gunshot wound to the stomach and spinal chord. The death was listed as homicide and it took place "on the street". David was married to Vesta Scott.

Noel Baxter Fulbright died 11 Nov 1968 at the age of 66. The Death Certificate lists his date of birth as 02 Nov 1902 and his spouse as Euphia Sherrill. It also lists his father as David James Fulbright and mother as Sara Jane Fulp. The cause of death was "Cardiac arrest" (heart attack). He was also suffering from diabetes.
