Born: Abt. 1806

Daniel Fink was born about 1806 in North Carolina.  The 1880 Iredell County Census says his father was born in Pennsylvania.

Daniel married Elizabeth (Unknown) prior to 1832.  By 1840, they had four children: Sarah, David, Daniel and Moses.

Church records from St Martin's Church in Iredell County, NC give the following information:

Daniel Fink had a son born the 26th of November 1832 named Daniel Alexander who was baptized October 27, sponsor Elisabeth Fink.
The 1850 Census lists this son as David A. Fink instead of Daniel Alexander Fink.  The correct name was more than likely David Alexander Fink.

May 1st 1834 was born to Daniel Fink a son and was baptized the 12th August 1838 and named David Monrow.
Both the 1850 & 1860 Census lists this son as Daniel M. Fink, more than likely this same Daniel Monrow Fink.

September 25th 1836 was born to Daniel Fink a son and was baptized August the 12th 1838 and named Hosei David.
Both the 1850 & 1860 Census lists one son as Jacob H. Fink.  The birth years are similar and this could easily be the same Hosei Fink.

The 1860 Iredell County Census says Daniel and Elizabeth's farm  was "on the Catawba" River.  Five of their children were still living at home: Daniel, Moses, Jacob, Sophia and Susan. The listed Real Estate value was $4300, and Personal Estate was listed as $400.

The 1850 Census listed Moses as being born is NC, but the 1860 Census says he was born in Tennessee.

All four of Daniel & Elizabeth's sons served the Confederate Army during the American Civil War.

Youngest son Jacob H. Fink enlisted on 18 Jun 1861 at the age of 21 in Company A, 33rd Regiment North Carolina.  The enlistment location was Iredell County, NC.  Jacob was still with Company A when they surrendered at Appomattox Court House, VA, on 09 Apr 1865.

Records indicate that elder son David A. Fink also enlisted on 18 Jun 1861.  David enlisted as a Private at the age of 28 in Company B, 2nd Calvary Regiment North Carolina.  The enlistment location was Iredell County, NC.  It seems odd, however, that David and Jacob would have enlisted on the same date, yet ended up in different Companies and Regiments.  Additional records indicate David's enlistment date was 30 Aug 1861.

Next-to-youngest son Moses Fink was the next of Daniel & Elizabeth's sons to enlist in the Confederate Army.  Moses enlisted as a Private on 27 Jan 1862 at the age of 24 in Company 2nd B, 42nd Infantry Regiment North Carolina.  Moses enlisted in Rowan County, NC.

Next-to-oldest son Daniel M. Fink was the last of Daniel & Elizabeth's sons to enlist.  Daniel enlisted as a Private on 26 Feb 1862, in Iredell County, NC, at the age of 28.  Daniel became part of Company A, 33rd Infantry Regiment North Carolina.  This was the same Company & Regiment that youngest brother Jacob was in.  Daniel died from wounds on 02 Jun 1864 at Lynchburg, VA.

By 1870, Daniel was age 64 and Elizabeth was 60.  His Real Estate value had dropped to $800 and his Personal Estate value had dropped to $200.  Sophia, age 26, and Susan L., age 24, were living with their parents.

In 1880, Daniel, age 74, was married to Elizabeth, but this was undoubtedly a new wife, also named Elizabeth.  She was considerably younger than Daniel.  Note there were two step-children living with the family.  Daniel's daughter, Sarah/Sallie Leslie/Lasley, had returned home after the death of her husband.

This Census lists Daniel's father's place of birth as Pennsylvania.

This Census also lists Daniel, Elizabeth and Stepdaughter Jane as "maimed, crippled, bedridden, or otherwise disabled."
