"Good order is the
foundation of all things." - Edmund Burke |
|
 |
|

|
|
|
The Y-Chromosome of a male is passed down to his prodigy
virtually unchanged from generation to generation. My
Paternal Great-Grandfather, Grandfather, Father and I (as well
as my son) have the
same Y-Chromosome pattern. Females do not receive the
Y-DNA, and therefore females cannot be tested for the paternal
line. They would need to have a brother, father or uncle
tested to find the results. |

|
Our ancestors left clues in our DNA that can determine our deep
ancestral origins as well as help us find those long lost
relatives. When you look at old photos of relatives such as
parents and grandparents its amazing to see the facial
similarities. Is it surprising that DNA would eventually
be able to give us information about our ancestry? |

When you compare a 12-Marker Test result to another 12 Marker
Test result of someone with the same surname, and the results
match 12/12, there is a 99% probability that you two are
related. If you compare the 12 marker result to someone
else who does not have the same surname, but the scores match,
you are most likely NOT "recently" related, but more than likely
do have a common ancestor within the past 40 generations (1000
years). |
|
|
|
|
|
Family groups move from state-to-state and even
country-to-country over a period of time. The Loftins have
lived in the US since the 1600, and lived in England prior to
that. A look at common DNA traits may reveal some
interesting observations. |

|
|
|
In the fall of 2006, before I started researching my own family
genealogy, I decided to do a DNA Test through
Family Tree DNA to see just what I could find out about
my ancestry. Family Tree DNA maintains a database - the
largest of its kind in the world. They are the pioneer and
the world's largest DNA company in the field of genetic
genealogy. |
|
|
|
|
|
There are currently 43 individuals with the same exact 12
Y-Chromosome markers as me at Family Tree DNA. Some are
very distantly related, while others are more closely related. |

This page will attempt to organize and share the data that I
have collected from those who have communicated with me. |

A graduate geochemist who lives a

children all have Hebrew names and were educated in a
Jewish grammar school in Prague. He is preparing
for an Orthodox conversion to Judaism and wants to make
alyiah and live in Israel.
Father: Miloslav Primas
Mother: Bozena Podrouzek (Podrouzkova) which comes from
the families Grill & Schwartz, originally Jewish, coming
from White Russia via Austria. Officially these
people were Catholics like almost everyone in this
country until 1918. It was a matter of "become
Catholic or die". Grandfather was a baptized
Catholic but never went to any Catholic church.
Grill and Schwarz families intermarried only between
themselves and never mixed with the surrounding
agricultural population. Many of these emigrated
to USA around 1900s or late 19th century. Proven
not only by DNA testing but also written testimony of
U.S. relatives. Original country of ancestry was
most probably Spain, some Spanish Jewish nobility.
Jewish ancestry originally from Belarus. The DNA
sample is actually not Michael's, but that of his
relative Dr. Michael Grill who lives in Paris, France. |

Father's lineage is very mixed and last names have been
changed. GGrandparents came from Holland,
Portugal, Spain. GGrandfather had the name
DeSouza, but changed it to Ramos over 100 years ago.
They considered themselves as descendents of the
Portugese (Ramos and de Souza are also Spanish names).
There is also some native South American influence.
There is a Jewish line in the family. Results of his
last test says that he has ancestors which were Askenazi

GGG-Grandfather: Mathew
Stephens married Society Loftin.
Mathew was a young man who was adopted by the Loftin
family and moved to Mississippi with them. Family
Records indicate that Society descended from Leonard
Loftin in England. Matthew was said to be a
Baptist circuit preacher even though he couldn't read or
write. Mathew and Society had a daughter, Nancy
Stephens who never married. She is Ralph's GG-Grandmother.
Nancy had a son, Thomas Jefferson Stephens, who has
proven to be a 25-point match between Ralph and one of
his father's cousins. A branch of the Loftin
family lived near the Stephens household and it seems
quite possible that Nancy Stephens could have had a
relationship with one of them.
Thomas Jefferson Stephens and many descendents were
Mormon. Ralph's Dad and his Dad's 1/2 first cousin
are two of the few descendents from Thomas that are not
Mormon.
There seems to be a connection to the Loftin line both
through Ralph's GGG-Grandmother, Society, and also
through his G-Grandfather's unknown father.
Ralph's 67 point study provided him with a Haplogroup
match (E3b1a) which has origins in North AFRICA, and
then seems to migrate from there through Greece, Italy,
England and finally the US. Even the names of
Society's ancestors (Benoni Loftin & Leonard Loftin)
seem to have had roots in Italy.

Virginia Yates was the daughter of Joseph Yates and Mary

Mary DeLong had been a mail-order bride. Joseph
Yates was born in Mille Roche, Ontario, Canada, 06 Mar

In May 2008, I was encouraged by Ralph
Stephens to have my Family Tree DNA Test upgraded from a
12-Marker Test to a 25-Marker Test. The cost of the
upgrade was $49. DNA is kept on file at Family Tree DNA
for years and upgrades can be acquired easily. The results from the 25-Marker Test
arrived on 01 Jul 2008. These are the
results: |

STEPHENS, Ralph W. |
USA, Texas |
|
Curtis Loftin |
Baptist |
|
GGG-Grandfather: Mathew
Stephens married Society Loftin.
Mathew was a young man who was adopted by the Loftin
family and moved to Mississippi with them. Family
Records indicate that Society descended from Leonard
Loftin in England. Matthew was said to be a
Baptist circuit preacher even though he couldn't read or
write. Mathew and Society had a daughter, Nancy
Stephens who never married. She is Ralph's GG-Grandmother.
Nancy had a son, Thomas Jefferson Stephens, who has
proven to be a 25-point match between Ralph and one of
his father's cousins. A branch of the Loftin
family lived near the Stephens household and it seems
quite possible that Nancy Stephens could have had a
relationship with one of them.
Thomas Jefferson Stephens and many descendents were
Mormon. Ralph's Dad and his Dad's 1/2 first cousin
are two of the few descendents from Thomas that are not
Mormon.
There seems to be a connection to the Loftin line both
through Ralph's GGG-Grandmother, Society, and also
through his G-Grandfather's unknown father.
Ralph's 67 point study provided him with a Haplogroup
match (E3b1a) which has origins in North AFRICA, and
then seems to migrate from there through Greece, Italy,
England and finally the US. Even the names of
Society's ancestors (Benoni Loftin & Leonard Loftin)
seem to have had roots in Italy.

JORDAN, Kenneth |

|
Kenneth is a retired teacher living
in Arkansas, but born in Winn Parish, Louisiana, as was
the previous 3 generations. |
|
Father: Floyd Jordan
Grandfather: John Jordan
G-Grandfather: Thomas Jefferson Jordan
GG-Grandfather: Eli Jordan was born in SC about 1830
Eli's parents are probably Gregory Jordan (b. Abt. 1813
in SC) and Zilphene Holifield (b. SC). Ken has not
been able to definitely determine whether Gregory is
Eli's father or perhaps an older brother. Gregory
had younger brothers named Wilson (or William), John and
Allen. Census Reports generally report SC as their
place of birth, however once or twice NC is reported. |

Father: Jose Garcia
Grandfather: Isidoro Garcia
G-Grandfather: Francisco Garcia
GG-Grandfather: Menachem Gershoni ben Shofat
GGG-Grandfather: Isidoro Gershoni
When the family migrated from Spain to Mexico, they
changed their name from Gershoni to Garcia. Since
their ancestors were from Spain, the family had assumed
they were of Sephardic roots. Raul's DNA test
shows he is actually of Ashkenazi roots.
When Raul's forefathers assimilated in Mexico, they also
became Catholic. Raul's father was Catholic but
became a Protestant. Raul is a Pastor of an
Assembly of God Church in San Antonio, Texas.
They knew their roots were from Spain but were surprised
to see through the DNA test the large number of links to
England and Germany. One of the few family stories
preserved is that "early on they moved around a lot." |
