Providence Memorial Cemetery

E Hwy 10
Catawba, North Carolina 28609

Organized: 1853

Providence Memorial Cemetery is located on E. Hwy 10 about two miles south of Catawba, NC.  The cemetery was established in 1853 as part of Providence Baptist Church - which eventually either burned or disbanded leaving the cemetery uncared for.

According to Lena Young Ramsey (in a phone conversation on 02 Sep 2011), in 1952 "Mr. Huitt" cut and sold timber from the property eventually giving the proceeds from the sell of the timber to Catawba Baptist Church, Catawba Methodist Church and Redeemer Lutheran Church (also located in the town of Catawba) for the upkeep of the cemetery.  All 3 churches continue to provide upkeep for the cemetery and still have church members who are buried there.

Highway 10 currently runs on the west side of the cemetery, but according to Lena the old road ran from Catawba to Murray's Mill and was located on the eastern side of the cemetery.

The cemetery is divided into two parts - the old cemetery and the new cemetery.
